Mock Trial Team
|
The mock trial team is a joint effort of SHJHS and the Young Lawyer's Division of Jackson, TN. The students are presented with a case (either civil or criminal) in which they must serve as lawyers and witness for both the prosecution and the defense. A local lawyer is then paired up with our teams in order to prepare for the regional competition. The regional competition includes all counties of west Tennessee except Shelby is typically held in mid-February. The state competition is held in Nashville in March. |
Academic Team
|
The Academic Team is representative of the top SHJHS academic students possessing quick recall. They participate in competitions with other schools based on the athletic program's tiers of district, region, and state. Students participate in practice sessions, competitions, and the Knowledge Bowl. Participants receive an Academic Letter for each year on the "A" Team. |

| CANstruction |
Canstruction® combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams showcase their talents by designing giant structures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition the food used in the structures is donated to RIFA Food Bank for distribution to agencies which serve the poor in West Tennessee. SHJHS has been the only high school to compete in this event for the past two years. |

Student Government
|
The role of the student government is to give the students an opportunity to have a part in self-government; to help with the coordination of extra-curricular activities; to bring about a closer relationship between the students, faculty and administration; to encourage the development of school spirit through participation; and to demand the best possible academic atmosphere. In keeping with these purposes, the SGA plays a major role in helping to plan and coordinate the various student activities within SHJHS. |
